The first-ever
"Race for the Future"
- a 10K/5K running and walking event - was held on Saturday,
October 2 at Spindletop Hall and Research Farm. About 100
participated in the event which raised funds to offset costs of
the 2004 KAECE-KHSA Fall Collaborative Institute. The event
received generous sponsorship from John R. Green Company, Kaplan
Early Learning Company, New Balance Lexington, Panera Bread of
Frankfort, Highbridge Springs Water, Magee's Bakery, Slone's
Signature Markets, Running Journal, and of course Spindletop Hall
and the University of Kentucky's Spindletop Research Farm.

In the 10K
event, the top male finisher was Thomas Morgan with a time of
35:19, and the top female finisher was Amy Smith with a time of
43:23. In all, there were 10K finishers in 9 men's age divisions
ranging from 20 to 64 years old and in 9 women's age divisions
ranging from 20 to 69. It was a pleasant, cool morning for a run
over a beautiful course with great food and prizes following the
event.
